We break our regular weekly posting schedule to bring you news of 2 important updates for Curious Lynx Games

  1. We have a few prototype copies of our first game to show off!

  2. We are soft-launching our Discord Server!

What is Which Witch?

Some of you reading will have been lucky enough to have had a preview look at one of the many prototype versions of Which Witch. It’s so rewarding to have a professionally printed copy in my hands, with some incredible art not only from out very own Nat, but also:

We will be showcasing their amazing work as we get nearer to, and during, our crowdfunding launch on Kickstarter later this year. We will obviously yell loudly about the Kickstarter launch when it happens this October via this Newsletter, but if you want to sign up to be notified specifically about the Which Witch launch on Kickstarter, you and your friends can do so here: go.curiouslynx.games/which-witch

Let’s have a tiny little sneak preview of some of the artwork on offer here.

Just a small teaser of the artwork of this game - the cat familiar is a placeholder picture of Nat’s cats, but the final version will include a digital portrait of Thor.

Which Witch? is a party game for 2-6 players. Each turn you simultaneously choose and conceal a witch that will help you brew, swap and steal potions from your coven. But beware! If you clash when revealing your witch, neither of you will get to use your powers....

Featuring gorgeous Art Nouveau style illustrations of 14 witches from myths and legends across the globe, Which Witch? will weave its charms about you.

Some of the witches let you bond familiars, such as the Cat who can protect you from or help you with clashes, the Crow how can protect your potions from being stolen, or the Octopus who you can annoy other players with.

The first player to successfully reach the witching hour at the end of the turn with 5 potions of the same colour wins - reaching 5 and then having a potion stolen from you is not good enough!

Whilst the game includes 14 witches, around 7 of them are used in any one game, based on player count. The full box worth has:

  • Hecate who greatly rewards you for correctly predicting Which Witch another player will play

  • The 3 Tricksters that mess with things:

    • Tamano-No-Mae who swaps potions and witches with other players

    • Titania who copies the effects of other witches

    • Baba Yaga who shuts down a named witch and rewards you the more players who chose that witch

  • The 3 Animal Lovers that bond familiars:

    • Sauska who bonds any familiars - one to you and one to an opponent

    • Morrigan who uses familiars to brew potions and bonds the Crow

    • Freyja who brews potions, but never quite the one you need, and bonds the Cat

  • The 2 Brewers who have their eye on the potion brewing festival:

    • Circe who is the best brewer of potions to order

    • Befana who brews potions for everyone

  • The 4 Theiving witches who have their eye on your opponent’s potions:

    • Pincoya who steals potions and bonds the Octopus

    • Angrboda who steals potions in return for a Familiar

    • Queen Mab who can steal potions but is picky over her targets

    • Morgan Le Fey who steal potions but leaves other potions behind in their place

  • And finally Isis Ennead - they key witch who lets you return all your played Witches and go around again!

Hecate and Isis play in every game, we have curated set lists of Witches that we find fun to play with, but you can always rely on good old random selection to keep things interesting, adding 1 trickster, 1 animal lover, 1 brewer and 1 theif and as many other witches as you need for the player count.

The game plays fast and fluid and you won’t want to stop after just one round, so we recommend playing 3 to crown an ultimate victor!

Where are we going to be?

If you’re going to be at the Expo this week, come visit us and say hi! We’ll be at stand 2-T17, tucked between halls 1 and 2. The stall will be manned for all 3 days of the Expo, Friday, Saturday and Sunday so at any time you could fine me, Nat, or my wife Polly, who might even be cosplaying as Baba Yaga!

We’ll talk to anyone about anything, but our main focus is getting as many people as possible to play the latest version of the game and sign up to be notified of when our Kickstarter goes live later this year.

We’re aiming for an October 2026 crowdfunding campaign, which will hit Halloween if we play our cards right, with final product fulfilment happening in the first half of 2027.

What did you say about Discord?

Can’t be at the Expo? We’re soft-launching our Discord Server. You who are subscribed to this newsletter are the biggest Curious Lynx fans, and we want to get as many of you as will fit onto the Discord before it launches to the general public. We plan on using the Discord for all sorts of things, news about (and playtests for) our upcoming products including Which Witch but also many beyond that, arranging games on Board Game Arena or Tabletop Simulator, talking about our latest newsletter article and taking suggestions for future topics or games to review.

Or of course you can just pop along and boast about the size of your shelfie. We just want to build a community of board game enthusiasts around our own games and the many other games we enjoy.

go.curiouslynx.games/discord is the invite link to the server, please pop in and say hi!

Exciting times!

So, whether we see you online at our Discord Server, interacting through any of our social media pages, or live in-person at the UK Games Expo or some future convention, please say hello and remember, it’s people like you that we are creating these games and this community for - the more you interact the more we will understand how you want this to grow!
